Boat are often compare to birds, so why not see birds with sails ?
I've made several work in progress :
[link]
[link]
[link]

All pictures used are from my personal collection.

Updates made : birds postion and some textures, tower lighting desing and texture and few other things...
I hope this one is better, for me it is :)

Second update : well the tower was still a hard point... i've made some try with a church photography but the very poor architecture of the building was not very good in the picture, even well integrated. So i've made the choice (not easy because i put a lot of time on the tower) to suppress any idea of building and continue with bird to give the gigantic scale, the result is far lighter and probably better, try to integrate a building was probably a bad idea in fact...

Thanx for all constructive critics :D

I love it.

I saw it as a thumb and was drawn to the colours, and the promise of an amazing shot, and when the full image loaded, I lol'd. Not only is it an amazing image, and very well rendered, it is incredibly amusing, and I like that. Love your reason too. (not that an image like this even needs a reason :3)

Well, if i remember well i've done it in a week... But this is without the time needed to take photographies used. I was in holidays when i made this one, that's why i've been quite fast to do it :) In hours i think that something like 20 hrs is correct.

Difficult to say if it's a good timing or not, i would prefer to make it faster, but i think i work the needed time for my work and also for work rythm, if you are working too fast you can change your style and also forget some details. If i need 60 hours to make an excellent picture i will take 60 hours, the most important is the result :)

It's great to hear that you are so determined with your art Urus, good for you! If anyone ever indicated that art doesn't require patience on some level, then they need a good whack! haha :D

Well for me being determined with art is something normal, it was the normal time needed to make my first big drawing in particular due to the size of the paper used (20" * 26").

Actually most of the traditionnal works you can find in my gallery are 20"*26" or higher =p I very like large size because they make drawings impressive and give you space to work on small details ;) The problem : make an exhibition with them is expensive due to frames

:)

Very nice! This one caught my attention right away, as I like birds, and I like sails. The background for the picture is really beautiful. :) It's funny that there are all those little birds, flying around the large ones :D NIce work!

Small birds are absolutly necessary, without them the idea of big birds no more work, they are here to give the necessary scale ;) And they also give life to the full picture.

the tower in the early versions could have worked if you had put the wing of the large foreground bird in front of it instead of behind............otherwise it seems to be a perspective anomaly where backround and foreground flatten out reducing the depth of the picture....love you work though.....and to be honest this image doesn't need the tower anyway........just a thought

I've tested to put the wing in front of the tower, but this gives the idea of a normal bird, it's not a problem of pure perspective but how we understand the picture : a gull has a very well known size and it's difficult to imagine it in giant size, this is why it gave a feeling of bad perspective. And it's true that the picture is better without any building :)

Okay, this is pretty 'far out'. I am now assuming that the sails also save these stalwart birds considerable energy :) The work is beautifully executed and as usual I have enjoyed this work. I miss the funky tower, even though it seemed slightly out of context with the rest of the work. It had a surprise element and with some revamping of the picture you now have could give you a whole new picture. It is, I think, at this point a magnificent piece of art that also engages the viewer to contemplate. :)

The tower was a hard choice, i wanted it surreal and strange but i failed to do it properly, in fact there was probably also a problem of design the tower was too big or too small, this due to the dark line made by rocks, the tower perpendicular to this line broke the dynamic in fact several other detail would have been necessary to retreive some dynamic making the tower idea bigger and in some way too important compare to gulls.
I've also tried at home with a church photography, this time no problem with picture quality but again the dynamic was not good and the church architecture was so squared that i prefered to not even show it
So at the end i've made the choice of no building, to create the good composition i've added some light rays and birds in place of tower, making the picture far lighter.
Thanx for your comment :D
